Spinal Cord Injury-Canada is pleased to offer the Copnick/Hilliard Scholarship again this year in the amount of approximately $500.00. This scholarship is provided from a Trust Fund established by contributions from the families of the late Morton Copnick and Craig Hilliard. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students with a Spinal Cord Injury to advance their post secondary education. Evidence of the applicant’s disability status must be verified by a physician or other qualified health care professional (i.e. physician, rehabilitation counselor, nurse, etc.) and submitted with the application.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all necessary documentation, such as letters of reference, transcripts and medical status are received by the selection committee. Letters of reference should address the applicant’s outstanding initiative, scholastic achievement, work as a peer volunteer and contribution to persons with spinal cord injury.
The Canadian Paraplegic Association is extremely grateful to Sun Life for their generosity in donating $50,000 to create a bursary, the Sun Life Financial Peer Support Scholarship Program.
Sun Life is a leading financial services company in Canada, with operations in key markets around the world.
The Peer Support Scholarship Program was initially funded as part of a five year grant in 2000 from The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation. The scholarships are awarded once a year, with grants averaging $1000, and successful recipients are selected based on academic standing, merit and financial need.
Sun Life recognizes the importance of the scholarship program and the need to assist young people with SCI or other physical disabilities to reach their career goals.
